Tallinn, Estonia

Our last trip of the journey was to Tallinn, Estonia. Where everything is cheap, and the Old Town is like brand new. While we were in Gamla Stan, in Stockholm, I was amazed by the beautiful cobblestone streets and painted buildings. But Tallinn was something else. Besides being the most well-preserved Old Town in the world, it is a cultural hub for cafes, art, and medieval everything.

It’s important to note that we almost didn’t go on this trip to Estonia because Diva Dave did not bring his passport, and thought his visa residence permit was sufficient. Needless to say we were let on the boat, with much hesitation, and I held a grudge about this the entire trip.

We took a ferry from Helsinki to Tallinn which took about 2 hours. It was recommended to us that we spend our one full day in the Old Town. There was plenty to see, and take pictures of. David did most of the food planning, because I had been very busy during my last week of work. And no matter where we stepped foot in to eat, I was always able to find the best coffee, pastries, and meals.

Our first stop was Muust Puudel, which translates to Black Poodle, and it had some great breakfast and vibes. A very artsy place with colorful art, and neon signs. In true couple fashion, David and I ordered the exact same thing - because we do this actually everywhere we go: Poached eggs over potatoes in a parmesan sauce, and a latte. It was everything I've been missing.

I knew that our weekend would consist of our typical things, walking, eating, stopping for coffee, and shopping (this one is my fault).

For 6 euro each, we climbed to the top of the Town Wall, that gives you an incredible view of the Old Town. This is not to be confused with St. Olav's Church tower which was on the other side of the city. I wish we had done this, but to be honest I couldn't figure out which attraction that was until just now as I'm writing this blog.

David requested we go to Epic Coffee. Because I have been sick I opted for a Dirty Chai Latte (had to get the coffee in somehow) and a salty caramel brownie, which was everything.

I wish I had taken pictures of these chocolates, but if you have time I would highly recommend trying Chocolala for award winning, handcrafted chocolates. Some were hand painted- and others were hand carved into Buddhas.

For dinner, we wanted to do something a little nice because we don't really go out to eat unless we are on a trip. We found Spot after roaming around the city looking for Wifi to check our GoogleMaps. It was upscale-ish, and very reasonable. We got a bottle of wine, mussels as an appetizer, Dave had lamb and I had filet mignon (treat yourself, ya know?). All of that for 80 euro. I would say that's a good deal. And the meal was picture worthy too.

In our opinion, we felt that two days was more than enough to see the city and enjoy it. It's walkable, and beautiful. Definitely one to put on the list, their souvenirs aren't half bad either.
