Helsinki: Amos Rex

I've had a lot of questions about this museum and our experience, so I decided to write a blog to share! Recently, David and I visited a new museum in Helsinki, Amos Rex. Their instagram and website was enticing enough, that David made me wait until he could come with too. Built underground, this museum has four large exhibit spaces. While outside, the general public may peek through the windows to see the museum-goers below.

Currently, they are home to Japanese-base digital collection by teamLab - you can read more about it here. Additionally, a collection of post-impressionist paintings by Sigurd Frosterus are housed and enjoyed in a more traditional art museum setting.

The digital aspect of the exhibits was one of the most exciting parts of the experience. Patron participation is welcomed and necessary. For example, we were able to use oil pastels to color in pictures of crocodiles, flowers, lizards, and butterflies in order to add to the digital ecosystem. "The flower petals will disperse when you step on them, and the crocodiles and lizards will eat and be eaten so that it can expand the ecosystem," we were told.

You can find more videos on my Instagram under the 'finland' highlight.

The interactive nature of these exhibits are breathtaking. When you stand in the middle of the room and take in the sights, and euphoric sounds, you feel entranced. And the best part is, it is ever changing. What one museum goer sees can completely change due to internal and external factors. Add this place to the list of "Things to Do in Helsinki".

Until next time... xo
